All classes have been working hard in school with lots of out of school trips, visits and activities.

On Thursday 25th June, Orange and White Classes were involved in the Deaf Athletics event at Doncaster. All pupils participated in the games and there were many achievements by our pupils.

All Primary Pupils participated in ‘Healthy Schools Week’ between 29th June and 2nd July.

There were lots of activities in and out of school organised in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. The pupils learnt about Olympic values. The pupils made their own pledge linked to health, diet and fitness. Our school nurse Frances Child was involved looking at healthy/unhealthy foods. She advised on how to make a healthy lunch box.

All pupils visited Sports Centres in the district where they participated in a range of exciting activities including swimming, table tennis, short tennis, badminton and football.

We had our ‘in school’ opening Olympic Ceremony followed by a day of sports activities. All pupils had brilliant fun.

Rebesah and Adiba have been enjoying weekly cello lessons. Jake, Georgie, Rohail and Sohail have been participating in weekly guitar lessons. All are doing well.

Many congratulations to Darren for achieving Level 4 in his KS2 Science SATs.

Finally, a goodbye to Rebesah, Adiba and Darren who will be transferring to our Secondary Department, and to Georgie who will be moving to Swain House School. We wish them all the best for the future. We look forward to welcoming our new pupils from Foundation. We are sure they will settle into the Primary Department quickly.

Primary Department

The Primary department presently covers Year 1 to Year 4, with the Reception Children spending the morning with Year 1. Pupils are taught in class groups. The department is growing year by year and will eventually cater for pupils up to and including Year 6.

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum covering all subjects of the National Curriculum with extra-curricular gym and swimming clubs each week. We are developing a sign bi-lingual approach and provide a safe and friendly atmosphere for the pupils. We follow a positive behaviour policy and promote respect for others and their belongings at all times.
The pupils have access to both deaf and hearing staff and follow a B.S.L. curriculum as well as the English curriculum.

Deaf studies is taught as part of P.S.H.E in order to enable pupils to develop a positive identity and an understanding of Deaf culture.
Work is clearly differentiated to suit individual pupil needs and progress is regularly monitored. Our aim is to enable the pupils to become confident, independent learners, ready to adapt to the next stage in their education.
